Child-centered education.

Professionals receive little to no formal training in child development — yet they make life-altering decisions for children. Our training fills that gap.

CVP’s training program equips attorneys, judges, court staff, and other child-interacting professionals with the skills to engage children in meaningful, developmentally appropriate ways — across four areas:

Foundations of Child-Centered Practice

Core CVP beliefs, the central tenets of child-centered practice, key attributes of our client-directed model, and the legal foundation for child representation.

Child Development Across Stages

A development overview — breaking down skills and strengths by age and stage, and examining traits such as problem-solving, moral reasoning, and communication.

Building Strong Relationships

The power of relationship-building, practice standards for high-quality relationships, the tenets of trauma-informed practice, and concrete strategies.

Communication with Children

Developmentally appropriate communication, strategies for ascertaining a child’s wishes, the role of validation and empowerment, and tools for effective questions.
