Research
Using data from our Child Advocate Attorney Program, CVP is leading the most comprehensive evaluation of child advocate attorneys in family court to date. This work is essential to making the child advocate attorney model the standard in family law and to supporting policy change and systemic reform. CVP’s research spans multiple studies, including a Child Interview Study, the Child Advocate Pilot Program Evaluation Study, and the National Family Court Survey, providing long-term insights into child-centered practices across disciplines, litigation outcomes, family well-being, and children’s lived experiences.
Led by CVP Executive Director and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Stef Sloan, a Principal Investigator on several national, federally funded studies, our research is both methodologically rigorous and deeply child-centered. As a trained forensic child custody evaluator, Dr. Sloan ensures that all evaluations generate reliable scientific evidence while prioritizing children’s experiences, voices, and well-being, helping guide best practices for attorneys and broader reforms in family court.
