Atiya M. Mosley, Esq.
Atiya M. Mosley is a respected attorney and nonprofit leader with more than twenty-seven years of experience advancing access to justice for society’s most vulnerable communities. Her career reflects a steadfast commitment to ensuring that the legal system works as it should—fairly, ethically, and with humanity—particularly for children and survivors of domestic violence.
For almost a decade, Atiya has been at the forefront of a transformative movement in children’s rights and autonomy: client-directed representation for children in family court. This approach marks a strategic shift in how the legal system engages young people, centering their voices, experiences, and expressed wishes in legal decision-making. Through her leadership and advocacy, this child-centered model has demonstrated that meaningful representation not only strengthens outcomes for children, but also improves results for families and courts alike.
Atiya did this impactful children’s work at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she spent nearly twenty years, starting as a Staff Attorney and rising to Managing Attorney and Project Director. As the leader of The Child’s Advocate Atiya played a pivotal role in the development of the client-directed representation model, shaping both programmatic strategy and organizational infrastructure. As a senior leader at Legal Aid, Atiya helped implement the firm’s strategic plan, and ensured firm-wide compliance of federal and state rules and regulations, contributing to the long-term sustainability of a complex, statewide nonprofit legal services organization.
A passionate educator and mentor, Atiya has trained hundreds of attorneys, judges, and advocates across the country on topics including ethics, family law, domestic violence, attorney well-being, and child-centered practice. She has long been a trusted leader within the North Carolina legal community, serving on the Wake County Bar Association Board and continuing her service through the Wake County Bar Association Foundation Steering Committee, the North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Council, and the Juvenile Justice & Children’s Rights Council.
Atiya’s leadership and impact have been recognized throughout her career, beginning with the Attorney Child Advocate of the Year award early in her practice and later with her selection as the first Wake Woman of the Year by Wake County attorneys.
Recruited to join Child’s Voice Project, Atiya now serves as our General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer, helping operationalize client-directed representation for children on a national scale and providing concrete strategies for how to center children. In this role, she leads our strategic and operational legal functions, stewarding the integrity and evolution of our intellectual property while supporting rapid growth in our startup-like nonprofit environment. She also develops national training curricula and provides legal guidance, oversight, and support to partners and stakeholders across the country.
Atiya is deeply motivated by Child’s Voice Project’s mission and is proud to help build a movement that demonstrates—clearly and convincingly—that when we listen to children, everyone benefits.
